Malas are strands of 108 beads plus a guru bead (may also include marker beads) that are traditionally used for meditation and prayer. To use sit upright in a comfortable spot and choose your intention. You may also pick a mantra to chat out loud or silently. Hold your mala in your right hand draped between your middle and index fingers. Start at the guru bead and use your thumb to count each smaller bead pulling it toward you as you recite your mantra. Continue for all 108 beads until you reach the guru bead again. If you wish to continue meditating do not cross over the guru bead but instead reverse your direction and start again. Happy meditating!
